Dr. Kay Etheridge, Program Director

Dr. Etheridge has a B.S. and M.S. from Auburn University and her Ph.D. from the University of Florida. She researches the history of images in science and teaches physiology classes in the Biology Department at Gettysburg College. Dr. Etheridge has been the program director for Advancing Science since its inception in 1994.
Valerie Stone, Program Coordinator

Valerie has a B.S. in Biology from the University of Akron and a M.Ed. in Secondary Science Education from the University of Massachusetts. She is Pennsylvania certified in both Biology and General Science. Prior to joining the AS staff in 2004, Valerie taught middle school General Science in Massachusetts and coached track and cross country. Valerie worked as a full time Mobile Educator for several years before "retiring" to raise her children. Valerie has continued to work part time for the program, first as a Mobile Educator, and currently as the Program Coordinator, managing the budget and many other administrative tasks.

Jack Sipe, Senior Mobile Educator

Jack has a B.S. in Sec Ed from Millersville University and an M.S. in chemistry from Shippensburg University. Jack is Pennsylvania certified in Chemistry. Prior to joining the AS staff, he taught at two different high schools, Southern Columbia Area for 2.3 years and at Dauphin County Tech School for 12 years. Jack also worked as an industrial chemist in both the stainless steel and brass/bronze industries as well as in waste water and drinking water analysis. Jack joined the AS staff in 1997 as our full time Chemistry Mobile Educator. Has taught as an adjunct for various courses for University of Maryland, HACC, Lebanon Valley College and currently teaches a chemistry lab at Shippensburg.

Lesa Bird, Mobile Educator

Lesa has a B.S. in Biology from the Pennsylvania State University. Prior to joining the AS staff, Lesa worked in cardiovascular research and developed and demonstrated science labs to augment the science curriculum at her children's schools. She also worked as a long term substitute teacher for middle school science and math and was a board member for the Adams County Watershed Alliance. Lesa is originally from Pittsburgh and is married with three children. Lesa joined the AS staff in 2004 as a part time Mobile Educator and is currently serving as a full time Mobile Educator working primarily with Biology and Environmental Science classrooms.

Bonnie Peckham, Part Time Mobile Educator

Bonnie has a B.A. from Gettysburg College and is Pennsylvania certified in Biology. Bonnie retired from East Pennsboro schools after 30 years teaching Biology and Advanced Biology. She joined the AS staff in XXXX as a part time Biology Mobile Educator. In her spare time, Bonnie is busy being a grandmother and volunteering with mission work.

Pam Rowland, Part Time Mobile Educator

Pam has a B.S. in Health and Physical Education from West Chester University, a M.S. in Parks and Recreation with a focus in Environmental Interpretation and Education, and a M.S. in School Library and Media. Pam is Pennsylvania certified in Environmental Education, Media, Elementary, Health and Physical Education. Prior to joining the AS staff, Pam taught elementary and middle shcool for 20 years. Pam joined AS in 2001 as our part time elementary Mobile Educator. Pam also keeps busy teaching at Renfrew Institute for Cultural and Environmental Studies in Waynesboro, the Presbyterian Church in Gettysburg, and for her own outdoor educational program Woodlands, Wildflowers, and Water.

Wayne Belt, Part Time Mobile Educator

Wayne has a B.S. from Towson State College and a M.S. from Morgan State College. Wayne is Pennsylvania certified in Biology, General Science, and Physics. Prior to joining the AS staff, Wayne taught biology, physical science, physics, environmental science, and engineering for 34 years in the Carroll County, MD public school system. Wayne joined the AS staff in 2005 as a part time Biology, Environmental Science, and General Science Mobile Educator. Wayne is also employed part-time by the Gettysburg College Biology Department to teach freshman biology lab, and by the Eisenhower National Historic Site as their "Environmental Interpreter" guiding student groups on environmental tours on the Eisenhower Farm. Wayne is active in the Watershed Alliance of Adams County, serving on its board and participating in the water quality analysis of many of the streams that flow originate in the county. He is also hiking the Appalachian Trail four days at a time. 

 

Diane Sipe, Part Time Mobile Educator

Diane has a B.S. in Biology and is Pennsylvania certified in Biology. Prior to joining the AS staff, Diane worked as a medical technologist, taught home school and worked as a middle school science instructional aide. Diane joined the AS staff in 2007 and helps with delivering equipment to schools.
