Advancing Science is a non-profit science outreach program that depends on its generous sponsors to provide operating expenses, funds to purchase and maintain equipment, office space and administrative assistance. AS is grateful to its sponsors, many of whom have continued to pledge their support year after year. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, through the Department of Education, designated Advancing Science as one of nine Science in Motion outreach sites in 2000. Currently there are twelve Science in Motion sites at colleges and universities throughout the state. The Commonwealth has been our primary source of funding every year since 2000.
Gettysburg College houses the program and provides lab, storage and office space. In addition, the College has made direct financial contributions in the form of salaries, postage, printing and other operating costs.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) provided funds in 2006, 2008, and a multi-year grant for 2009-2012 to expand the program's focus into the environmental sciences.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) provided funds in 2008 and again in 2010 for environmentally themed teacher workshops.
AMP Incorporated, now AMP/Tyco Electronics has been our strongest and most consistent corporate sponsor to date, providing funds to purchase equipment and support grades K-4 outreach on ten seperate occasions.
The Whitaker Foundation enabled AS to add a second van and Mobile Educator to the program in 1997. The foundation awarded subsequent grants in 1999, 2001, 2003 and a final grant in 2004.
The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) provided the inital funds to launch the program in 1993.
